I wrote a piece on queer anger that I just put up on my Medium page!
This was inspired by the many times I’ve been told that I shouldn’t be angry when I’m in debates with people (primarily straight people) about homophobia, advocating for myself, and educating them on why certain phrases or behaviors are homophobic. There’s so much about homophobia that is infuriating, that it seems impossible to ignore the anger it sparks, and telling a queer person to not display their anger about it feels wrong.
I wanted to write this piece because I feel like it’s a disservice to ourselves, as queer people, to ignore that anger. It’s what sparked the movement for our rights, and we shouldn’t shy away from expressing it, especially if it gets people to listen.
